How do campaigns receive funds?

Funds route automatically through Stripe. Direct contributions and marketplace sales both reach campaigns without manual transfers.

Funds route automatically to campaign creators through Stripe.

Whether someone contributes directly or a marketplace sale splits to your campaign, funds arrive without manual intervention. You don't need to chase payments or process transfers.

Direct Contributions

When someone contributes directly to your campaign:

  1. Payment processes through Stripe
  2. Funds arrive in your connected Stripe account
  3. Transaction is recorded on the contributor's GivingProfile
  4. Campaign progress updates automatically

Marketplace Sales

When someone lists and sells an item supporting your campaign:

  1. Buyer completes checkout
  2. Payment splits according to seller's preset percentage
  3. Campaign portion routes to your Stripe account
  4. Seller portion routes to their Stripe account
  5. Both transactions appear on GivingProfiles

Stripe Connect

Campaign creators connect their bank account through Stripe Connect during campaign setup. This enables:

  • Direct deposits — funds go straight to your bank
  • Automatic routing — no manual transfer requests
  • Secure processing — bank-level security
  • Transaction records — full history available

Timing

  • Direct contributions: processed immediately
  • Marketplace sales: processed after purchase completes
  • Bank transfers: typically 2-3 business days

Fees

OpenGiving charges a platform fee on transactions. Stripe charges standard payment processing fees. All fees are disclosed before you create a campaign.

Campaign creators receive the full amount shown in their campaign dashboard, minus disclosed fees.
