How does the marketplace work?

Sellers list items and choose how much goes to a campaign. Buyers shop and funds split automatically at checkout.

OpenGiving is a peer-to-peer marketplace where every purchase routes funds to campaigns.

Sellers list items and choose what percentage (20-100%) goes to a campaign. Buyers shop and the funds split automatically at checkout. No manual transfers, no delays.

The Flow

For Sellers

  1. List an item — upload photos, set a price, write a description
  2. Choose a campaign — select which campaign receives funds from your sale
  3. Set the split — decide what percentage goes to the campaign (20-100%)
  4. Ship when sold — handle shipping directly with the buyer

For Buyers

  1. Browse the marketplace — find items you want
  2. Purchase — check out with secure card payment
  3. Funds split automatically — the campaign portion routes instantly
  4. Receive your item — seller ships directly to you

Payment Routing

When a buyer completes a purchase:

  • Campaign portion → routes instantly to the campaign
  • Seller portion → available to the seller's account
  • Platform fee → small percentage to cover payment processing

All transactions are recorded on both the buyer's and seller's GivingProfiles.

Why Peer-to-Peer?

Traditional fundraising only accepts cash. OpenGiving opens new channels:

  • People with items to sell can contribute without spending money
  • Buyers get something they want while supporting causes
  • Campaigns reach beyond their immediate network

The marketplace expands what's possible in fundraising.
